Hives are red and sometimes itchy bumps on the skin. An allergic to a drug or food usually causes them. Allergic reactions cause your body to release chemicals that can make your skin swell in hives. People who have other allergies are more likely to have hives than others. Other causes include infections and stress.

Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in different shapes and sizes. Their size varies from a few millimeters to several inches in diameter. Urticaria can be round, or they can form rings or large patches. Papules (welts), red lesions with a red flare at the borders, are another manifestation of hives. Hives can occur anywhere on the body, like the trunk, arms and legs.

Urticaria is the bodi € ™ s response to allergens. They generally look for a rash or welts, like on the skin and occur after exposure to an allergen to which the body is sensitive. Common allergens that cause hives include fish, dairy products, nuts, food additives, flavorings, preservatives, penicillin, and aspirin. Stress, extremes of temperature, pressure on the skin and insect bites can also cause hives to appear.

Hives result of dilation of capillaries allowing fluid to escape into the surrounding tissues, the epidermis. They disappear when the body absorbs the liquid. The border of a hive is described as polycyclic, or made up from many quarters, and the changes that the leakage of liquid then subsides. By pressing a hive causes the skin whitening to distinguish a hematoma or a papule.

Make a paste with 2 cups of oatmeal and 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. Add a little water to make a paste. Apply to affected area for 15-30 minutes. It dries the hives up within a couple of hours.

Oats can be very helpful for the beehives. Pour a cup of boiling water over one tablespoon oatmeal. Let it steep for thirty minutes. Strain it, and then apply the liquid on your hives with a cotton ball. This also works to relive the insect bites. Refrigerate the solution and use in a few days. You can also do this in greater quantity and put it in the bathwater (about four cups of water and four tablespoons soup oatmeal).

herbal manuals often list a poultice of crushed leaves of chickweed as a remedy itchy skin. Some people make a paste of water and cream of tartar and apply it to the hives, replacing it when the dough becomes dry and crumbly.
